Dorchester Fixed Frame Awnings are now available with Kingston Engineered Aluminum Xtrusions® as a premium option.
These engineered aluminum extrusions and our deep welding expertise provide a new alternative to the traditional steel-based awning. The aluminum frames provide exceptional corrosion resistance yet maintain strength and structure. With our engineered aluminum frame, customers would benefit from corrosion resistance, longer life and would be able to change coverings based on name changes etc. without replacing the understructure frame.
The new aluminum extrusions were specially designed by our sister company specifically for use in fixed frame awnings. These extrusions are made for us by the leading area-based aluminum extrusion mill. We retain the proprietary design rights to the new extrusions. Our sister company brings over 50 years of deep aluminum design, engineering, and welding experience in structural products. We are leveraging this experience to our awning products.
We pride ourselves using Made-In-America locally manufactured components.
Why Aluminum?
Sustainability – The Green Rating – Long life
In today’s world, we need to consider the sustainability of a product. By ensuring you purchase a product that does not need to be regularly replaced and is sustainably produced, you can save in the long run.
Aluminum is a 100% recyclable and will never lose its properties. According to the Aluminum Association, 75% percent of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today.
Does Not Rust/Corrode
Highly resistant to corrosion, aluminum will not rust in any weather conditions. Unlike other materials that are susceptible to rusting like steel, especially when used outdoors, aluminum’s natural properties contribute to its durability. Aluminum alloys have almost no iron and without iron, the metal can’t actually rust, but it does oxidize. As a reactive metal, aluminum quickly forms a natural oxide layer when it is exposed to oxygen and water. The hard oxide layer gives the metal a natural coat protecting it from further corrosion.
Lightweight
Aluminum’s lightweight quality is part of why it is known as one of the most efficient structural materials - weighing less than 1/3rd the weight of steel. Using high strength, low weight yields a reduction in structural support, as well as transportation and installation costs.
Enhance Value
Aluminum is an investment into your property; aluminum awnings do not require additional parts, regular or costly repair for corrosion. Whether they are in an area with harsh weather exposure or in a relatively mild climate, they are built to last. Aluminum awnings offer long life, low maintenance and the ability to repurpose the frame when you want to change the brand or image of your property.
Maintenance
Aluminum is an exterior material that can manage long-term exposure to elements with very little maintenance – making aluminum awnings a more permanent solution that can last with little to no care and maintenance.
Aesthetically Pleasing
If you are looking for a more aesthetically pleasing and permanent solution for your awning, aluminum is the best choice. Its durability means that you won’t be left with damaged metal caused by exposure to the elements such as salty environments and rust.
The Company is a fully integrated manufacturer of various types of awnings providing a one-stop solution to owners, contractors, builders, and property managers and serves both commercial and residential customers in the greater New England area.
